Doris Leske – 77
Doris Ann Leske, age 77 of Winthrop, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 17, 2018 at GlenFields Living Center in Glencoe. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 2021 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winthrop with Pastor Paul Meitner officiating. Burial will follow in the Winthrop Community Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Thursday.
Doris Ann was born on July 27, 1943 at Glencoe Hospital to Walter and Hazel (Engman) Matthes. She was brought home to the farm in Sibley Township and baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church (Sibley Township.) The family moved into town (Gaylord) in 1945. Doris was confirmed in 1957 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Gaylord, and graduated from Gaylord High School, where she was active in Band and Choir, in 1961. After graduating she worked at Fingerhut (Gaylord).
On April 5, 1964 Doris married Edgar B. Leske, son of Harrry and Selma (Pagel) Leske, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Gaylord. She moved to the farm in Transit Township where they raised 4 children; daughter, Natalie and sons, Jason, Aaron and Adam. Over the years she was an active supporter of her children’s activities in school, 4-H and FFA. In 1984 she started a 22 year career at Hand’s, Inc in Winthrop retiring in 2006.
Doris was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Ladies Guild and the local gardening club. She enjoyed reading, gardening, music and her grandsons.
Doris is survived by her three sons, Jason of St. Joseph, MO, Aaron of Winthrop, and Adam of Winthrop; grandchildren, Jacob and Lucas Leske; sister, Betty Peterson; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 54 years, Edgar; a daughter, Natalie; three sisters, Helen Grieger, LaVerne Greenough and Dee Kenzi; in-laws, Iver and Evelyn Buker, Daniel and Adeline Grosam; nephew, Gary Grosam and niece, Terry (Grieger) Brown.
